About This Offer
Santander is currently showing a £180 switch incentive on selected current accounts. The live switching page no longer supports the older Amazon gift card wording, so that has been removed from this page.
Why Santander Edge?
If you choose Santander Edge as your qualifying account, it still comes with meaningful everyday-account perks:
- 1% cashback on household bills paid by direct debit (gas, electric, broadband, council tax, mobile) - capped at £10/month but that's £120/year back
- Linked savings options - Santander also promotes savings products alongside Edge
- Fee-free spending abroad - no foreign transaction fees on the debit card
- £3/month fee - but the cashback and interest more than cover this if you use the account properly
Decision Checklist
Santander is a stronger fit when you can use the account beyond the bonus:
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Can you complete the full CASS switch within 60 days? | The switch timing is part of the reward criteria |
| Do you have 2 household direct debits? | Santander specifies household-style direct debits for the offer |
| Can you pay in £1,500 inside the window? | Missing the funding step can void the bonus |
| Will Edge cashback offset the monthly fee? | The fee is easier to justify if your bills earn cashback |
| Have you ever received a Santander switcher incentive? | The terms exclude previous switcher-incentive recipients |
Expected Timeline
Santander is not the fastest payout route:
- Request the switch.
- Complete the switch and qualifying actions within 60 days.
- Santander checks eligibility after the 60-day point.
- The payment is expected within the following 30 days if you qualify.
That can mean a roughly 90-day wait from switch request to cash, so keep screenshots or confirmation emails until the payment lands.
Is It Worth It?
Yes, especially if you were already considering Santander Edge or another qualifying Santander account. The switch criteria are not as light as NatWest because you need 2 active household direct debits and a £1,500 pay-in, and the cash can take around 90 days from the initial request to arrive.
If you only want the cash quickly, Santander is weaker than some rivals because of the slower payout timing. If you also want the Edge cashback features, it becomes much more attractive.
Who Should Skip It?
Skip this one if the £3 monthly fee will annoy you, your direct debits do not fit Santander's wording, or you want the quickest possible bonus. A simpler bank-switch route may suit you better if you are only doing one switch and do not plan to keep Santander Edge afterwards.
Important Notes
- The £3/month fee is the main downside - make sure you'll earn it back in cashback. If you pay at least £300/month in direct debit bills, the cashback covers the fee
- You must pay in at least £1,500 and have 2 active household direct debits within 60 days of your switch request
- Santander checks eligibility after 60 days and says payment arrives within the next 30 days
- The live terms say you are excluded if you held a Santander current account on 1 January 2025
- The live terms also exclude anyone who has previously received a Santander switcher incentive
- The 1% cashback applies to direct debits only, not card spending
- Savings interest requires a separate Edge Saver account linked to your Edge current account
